The life of Barbara Jeanette Monfort Gray began on December 3, 1936 in Butler Georgia with the late Annie Riley Montfort and the late Charlie Montfort as her parents. She grew up and attended the public schools of Taylor County. At an early age, she joined the Antioch Baptist Church, as the years would roll by she would become more involved in church ministry. She served on the usher board and she also sang in the gospel choir. And aside from those duties, she was known to help with the kitchen ministry. Antoich was the nucleus of the family. It was where many of her ancestors would gather to pray in find strength to face another day. Those traditions were something that Ms. Barbara lived by.

She met and married the late Roosevelt Gray. They shared a love together by building a strong family. Over the years Barbra Gray would acquire the name, “Granny”. Everyone in her family called her granny. The name grew in popularity with her that even the neighbors and friends would often refer to her as granny too, her motherly image. And her kind demeanor made that name synonymous with her personality.

Granny was a very industrious woman. She was never afraid of hard work. She was blessed by God to have many talents. One of those talents was a seamstress. She loved to sew and piece quilts together, many of those quilts have became a family heirloom. She had another talent of styling hair she was known for keeping all the ladies in her family and the community alike looking their best for special occasions. In her years of working, she was a dry cleaning tech for Ace Cleaners, she also worked for Martha Mills Textile Company.

Granny’s life was filled with love, laughter, and good times with her children. The family was sure to unite every Sunday at Granny’s house to break bread. Check on one another and to love on one another, she got  a great amount of joy seeing generations of her offspring under one roof, laughing, chatting, and enjoying family time. Granny also would find joy in solving crossword puzzles, she also loved watching game shows, but her top-tier show was always the Wheel of Fortune, at other times she could be found listening to gospel music or working in her garden.

A life well lived would be the sentiment of granny‘s life. As Paul once said as an apostle of Jesus Christ, I have fought a good fight, I have kept the faith and my earthly assigned is now complete. She traded in this life of Pain for a life with her master who would say Servant well done. She gained that peace on Sunday, August 30, 2026 in Macon. George.

Those who proceeded her in death are her parents, her husband, and two of her children Gregory, Wayne Gray Marilyn Gray (Viol) Reeves, siblings Martha Fluellen, Virginia Willis, Mary (Gerald) Rumph, Betty Crooms, Horace Montfort.

Left to cherish her memory for generations to come are her children: Jacqueline Woodard, Gwendolyn, Elaine (Rickey) Montgomery, Emantha Gray, Jasper Don Gray, Terry (Reeshemah) Gray, Sandra (Tim) Howell, Tracey Gray, Michael (Tresia) Gray, Vincent Gray, Frangola Skelton, Adrain Gray, Bryant Gray, Grandaughter who she reared as her own Deidra (Steven) Dugger, Eugene Fluellen and Charlie Frank Willis devoted brothers- in- laws, a devoted daughter-in-law Sonja Gray 39 Grandchildren, 58 Great Grandchildren, 14 Great Great Grandchildren, 2 Great Great Great Grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
